Springtime – goodbye mould!

Mould control in houses and flats.

Particularly during the winter, many flats and houses are affected by moisture damage and harmful mould infestation. Mould should best be fought immediately after if has appeared. This is why experts recommend checking the areas prone to humidity and mould around the house or flat thoroughly. It is essential to check ...

The window reveals

Mould preferably grows inside the window reveals of unrenovated older buildings or generally in case of poorly insulated windows. This is due to the humidity contained in the room air, which always condenses at the coldest place.

The radiator niches

The external wall is thinner in these niches, therefore it cools down more than is otherwise the case. No problem, as long as the radiators are on. But if the heating is switched off, mould may form.

All corners of the room

External walls cool down significantly in winter. This is why they are prone to the deposition of condensation water and thus to the development of moulds. This is particularly true for nooks and hidden corners, for example in the cellar.

The footprint of furniture

If the air cannot circulate properly behind a cupboard, the condensation moisture will not be able to escape. This is where mould finds a breeding ground, and the conditions are particularly optimal in case the back of the cupboard is dusty. The simple solution: Move the furniture 10 to 15 cm away from the wall and remove the dust regularly.

Kitchen and bathroom

By virtue of their functions, these are always the most humid rooms. This can only be remedied by regular ventilation or a dehumidifier. Special attention should be given to the silicone joints. If they are connected with external walls cooling down quickly, mould formation is very likely.

As soon as you detect mould spores, better act immediately.

Because moulds produce carcinogenic toxics and may cause allergies. Mould can be removed, for instance, with methylated spirit or isopropyl alcohol sold in pharmacies and drug stores. These two agents based on alcohol are well-suited but highly flammable – therefore, it is advisable to ventilate the room during and after use until the alcohol has evaporated. By the way, the Federal Environmental Agency recommends engaging a specialised company in case of mould infestations of more than half a square metre.

Dehumidifiers stop mould reliably

The easiest way to prevent mould formation is by regulating the relative humidity of the room air. Trotec offers the largest and most individual selection of suitable devices. Catch up on the benefits of our dehumidifiers.
